The Returner R3 motor by Brother Hobby may be an older generation of motor, but its still one of the smoother spinning BH motors available. This low-kV variant has been produced with high efficiency longer range setups (low-kV, larger prop) or racing setups (low-kV 6S) in mind.

The low kV 6S is definitely the new hype. The concept is to match the kV to the battery such that it is equivalent to a current gen 4S setup. eg. 2600kv motor on 4S would be about the same (motor rpm wise) to a 1750kv motors on 6S.

Why would you do this? Well that's still debatable. The idea is that a low-kV 6S setup would draw less amps for a given motor size/rpm. This means less stress on your electronics, particularly your battery! This means less PUFF and more cycles! Another theory is its faster (for racing) a 6S pack sagging under load takes less of a performance hit per Volt of sag, giving your better performance for longer.

Early testing has shown that you're able to get more laps faster our of a low-kV 6S setup than an equivalent 4S setup under racing conditions.

 

We're not going to profess this older generation motor is the best thing since sliced bread. However, it is still a high quality motor at a very affordable price!

So if your thinking about a long range rig... or you'd like to see what this low-kV 6S racing hype is all about. You should consider these motors!

Please Note: we've become accustomed to titanium alloy or hardened steel prop shafts that we just don't think about this anymore. However, as the R3 prop shafts are 6061 alloy, don't over tighten them or use hardened steel prop nuts as they will strip or wear out quickly.
